Allie, a 26-year-old bottlenose dolphin at the Chicago area's Brookfield Zoo, has given birth to a 40-pound, 3-foot long, healthy and strong calf.
Allie's labor took several hours with full-on labor about two hours prior to the baby's arrival.
The new dolphin is taking to her new surroundings swimmingly, hitting key milestones like swimming in mom's wake and nursing successfully.
Zoo officials say the first 30 days is the most critical time frame of a new calf's life.
