Thousands of people squeezed into this swimming pool in southwest China on Tuesday to take a dip in what's being called the country's hottest Julys in 140 years.
But as temperatures soared outside inside local residents were cool if not somewhat squashed.
State media reported that more than 15,000 people visited the indoor pool at a Daying County amusement park in Sichuan Province on Saturday. That's more than triple the number envisaged by its designers.
Temperatures in Sichuan and other parts of China are expected to climb to 41 degrees Celsius, prompting an emergency level-two heat alert for the first time.
At least two people in the eastern city of Shanghai have died from heat stroke.
