Whale watchers off the coast of Sydney, Australia, were treated to a show by the sea mammals migrating north from the Antarctic to warm waters off Queensland on Friday.

The official whale watching season begins at the end of May and goes through to November when up to 20,000 whales will head north on their annual migration.

The whales breached the crests of waves and dived into deeper waters, delighting whale watchers by blowing spray as they cruised past Sydney's coastline.
